Introduction
Hella thoroughly tests all LED products in
the lab and in practice. Since 2002, for
example, 20 trailers of an international
carrier have been marathon-testing their
Dura-LED lights. Result: not a single failure
to date.
Competitive product testing.
In regular lab tests, Hella’s OEM part
quality is challenged by other commercially
available products. These comparisons
reveal how attention to detail, or lack of it,
can prevent problems or cause them.
1. A side marker lamp available on the
market has manually solder current control
units which are sensitive to temperature.
The components may therefore cause
preliminary damage to go unnoticed. This
will substantially reduce the service life of
the entire LED light.
Hella are fully focussed on an accurate
automatic process.
2. One of the tested position lights
features sheet metal plates which are
intended to reflect the light and thus to
maintain the statutory beam angle.
However, considering tolerances allowed
during production and in normal operation,
this principle of construction is quite
questionable: Influences such as corrosion
or bending of the plates caused by vibration
may prevent the light from outputting the
statutory amount of light.
Hella meets this functional
requirement by installing a high-
quality optical system.
As a rule, the products tested by Hella
are ECE-approved. Still, test results often
suggest that production must have been
at varying levels of quality. As opposed
to that, Hella products meet all statutory
regulations as well as the requirements of
automotive manufacturers which are often
stricter than the statutory criteria.
LEDs for more operative reliability.
Commercial vehicles are highly stressed performers.
Fleet managers and drivers expect them to be
100% operational at all times. This means vehicle
components of very high quality and durability. Hella
LED lights meet these demands. They have been
developed and are manufactured under the strictest
quality controls. Hella exposes them to an extremely
tough series of simulation tests to verify their everyday
efficiency: Tests include torture proving grounds,
arctic frost and tropical heat, heavy showers and
steady rain. All in all, LEDs prove to be superior to
conventional bulbs.
Note: All LED lights are designed for operation in
DC voltage circuits. They must not be operated on
clock-controlled supply voltages or AC voltages.
